OSCAR WINNER Kevin Spacey’s new movie is about the M.I.T. Blackjack Team, a bunch of card-counting college kids who win millions in Vegas. Ben Mezrich, team member, author of Bringing Down the House (the book the movie is based on), said they won as much as $400,000 in one weekend. And if you haven’t read the book ... I won’t spoil the ending.
DAN SHUMMY is spending the summer in Hawaii. He recently retired as the VP of sales and marketing for the Golden Nugget, but remains on the payroll as a consultant (good work if you can get it).
CONGRATS TO Baldwin High grad Kendall Spider Grove on winning the Spike TV Ultimate Fighter 3 mixed martial arts series in Vegas. In a unanimous decision, he defeated Ed Herman 29-28. His spoils for the season: a six-figure contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

WHO’S DA best in Vegas? Consumer Reports magazine surveyed 66,000 readers on restaurant chains. They were asked to rate them on taste, service, mood, choice and value. The Capital Grille was voted best steakhouse, special occasion restaurant and best burger. Check it out on the third level of the Fashion Show Mall.
RECORD (HOT) weather this summer - the weather wise guys say it’s running 10 to 15 degrees above normal ... “but it’s a dry heat” (he says with tongue firmly planed in cheek). Good time to check out the Palms’$40 million pool renovation opening July 1.
