HIDDEN INSIDE the Mandalay Bay is the AAA 5 diamond-rated Four Seasons Hotel. Known for having the best of everything, a night here will set you back more than $350. The Strip’s only non-gaming hotel is also home to the Strip’s only kosher kitchen. It even has a rabbi on site to ensure it’s kosher.
KUDOS TO the Boyds ... not many employers would give you almost a year’s notice. In January they announced Echelon Place, a $4 billion development on the property occupied by the legendary Stardust. Of the 900 nonunion employees, more than half elected to stay with the Boyd Corporation and utilized the company’s private sector placement program. What about the other employees? Most have either retired or changed professions.
STEVE LAWRENCE and Eydie Gorme have been confirmed to close the showroom at the Stardust on Oct. 28.
AT THE Main Street Station, Henrietta Borges of Ewa Beach won $4,233 for a royal flush on the $1 VP machine, and Jane Adaniya of Aiea won $12,500 on the slots.
DIANA ROSS has been meeting with the big guys at Caesar’s Palace ... after the meetings, she was spotted on the high-roller tables.
MORE THAN 100 Wynn Las Vegas dealers claim they’re being cheated out of their tips. One by one they walked into the office of the labor commissioner to file a complaint. The hotel recently eliminated the pit manager position and instituted team leaders to help dealers service guests at the tables. The team leaders are now sharing in the tip pool that was once only split among the dealers. The net result is a decrease in dealers’ gross pay from $88,000 to $77,000. Dealers and management at other Vegas casinos are watching this very closely because it may become the new standard around town.
FOODIES WILL want to check out “Signature Chefs of Las Vegas” on Sept. 30. More than 30 of the city’s top chefs will be preparing their signature dishes to raise money for the March of Dimes. Entertainment, auctions and sommelier tastings round out the festivities. Get your tickets early. Call the March of Dimes (702) 732-9255 or visit us at www.KimosVegas.com for the link for more info.
AFTER FIVE YEARS, investigators still don’t know what 9-11 hijacker Muhammad Atta did in Las Vegas. He drove a rental car 110 miles in two days, but there’s no indication of where he went or whom he met. Not a single image of him was found from the thousands of security cameras in the city. Maybe he got lost looking for the Mustang Ranch?
