$22 million… that’s how much kala they raised for Lou Ruvo Brain Institute. The funds will help build a Las Vegas research center for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s and other brain dysfunctions. One thousand rich folks were invited to bid on packages such as dinner with Robin Williams prepared by Emeril LaGasse ($400,000), a shopping trip with Teri Hatcher ($150,000 and you pay for the shopping), a recording session with Julie Andrews ($300,000), dinner at RAO’s New York with Jon Bon Jovi, a tennis weekend with Andre Agassi & the Mrs., Stefi Graf, a California wine country tour via private rail car ($225,000), a night of poker at Ray Romano’s house and a walk-on part in Kevin Spacey’s film on the MIT blackjack team ($200,000).
Where do they find those lucky $20 bills? A woman, 71, thought she’d have a little lunch, play a little slots and check out “The
Magic of Rick Thomas” at the Orleans Hotel & Casino. She had to take a rain check on the show because she won $12,076,530! “I come here all the time. So today, I put in $20 and after several pulls, I saw the first Megabucks symbol fall into place, then the second, then the third. It was all in slow motion, watching them drop down one at a time. But I knew right away I’d won, I just didn’t know how much.” She says she’ll use the money to pay off her mortgage, donate to her church and help her family. $25,000! That’s how much scalpers were getting for NBA All-Star Game tickets… the Palms auction started at $80,000 and went for over $100,000, cheap considering it included Hefner’s Suite, four tickets and a limo.
Between the Super game and the blackjack tables, Charles Barkley reportedly won $700,000. What’s more impressive, he’s admitted to losing $2.5 million in a single night!
