WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
Jim Carrey
COMEDIAN JIM CARREY’s new movie is called Sober Buddies. As a court-appointed chaperone, he falls off the wagon while escorting a wild executive through Vegas.
VEGOOSE 2007 is the annual Halloween weekend concert at Sam Boyd Stadium. So far, headliners include The Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine ... costumes optional.
BY NOW you’ve heard of the guy who shot his gun off inside the New York, New York casino, injuring four people. In many ways, Nevada is still the wild, wild West. No permit is needed to purchase a handgun, rifle or shotgun, and there’s no registration or licensing unless you want to carry a concealed handgun.
SOMETIME THIS SUMMER, Cirque du Soleil’s 20 millionth customer will walk through its Vegas doors ... to celebrate, every ticket buyer can enter to win airfare for two to see a Cirque du Soleil production anywhere in the world, and an invitation for two to the Luxor/Criss Angel gala, including airfare and hotel.
FOR A LIMITED time, you can see the Cirque du Soleil shows KA!, O, Mystere, Zumanity and Love for $50! These full view tickets are extremely limited; get the link at www.KimosVegas.com.
LAST WEEK we told you the story of Richard Brodie, who was banned from playing at any Harrah’s/Caesars casino after a lucky streak at the video poker machines. After much protest from fellow players, the bigwigs reversed their position and allowed him to play in the World Series of Poker.
CONGRATS TO Rick Peterson, the new vice president of marketing and sales at Hawaiian Air. Among other things, he was in charge of its Frequent Flier program and its new website ... check out the very cool feature that lets you switch between paying for your flight with dollars or Hawaiian miles at www.HawaiianAir.com.
AND CONGRATS TO Robert Ishikawa of Pearl City, who won $7,500 on the MegaBucks machine at the Cal, and to David Baradi of Honolulu, who won $7,200 video poker at Main Street.
SLOT PSYCH Jean Scott, the Queen of Comps, reports a new scam in the casinos. Guy sits next to you at a slot machine and puts a couple of bucks in the machine, after a few pulls (at one coin each) he asks you to watch his machine while he goes to the bathroom. When he returns, he hopes you’ll ask him to watch your machine (after all, he trusted you). As soon as you leave the scammer will cash out your credits and look for another victim ... auwe!
TITLE 31 is a federal law that went into effect July 1, and many casinos are implementing it differently. Be prepared to show your ID when you sit at a table, and be prepared to show your ID when cashing in $3,000 (or more) in chips. Some cages are requiring Social Security numbers, while others will accept ID for transactions under 10 dimes.
