WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
FAN-ATIC ... Harrah’s Entertainment CEO and president Gary Loveman has taken his 25-year love affair with the Boston Celtics to the ultimate level by becoming a minority owner, saying, “I’ve been a basketball fan all my life, and to be a part of the team is a great honor.” The NBA would only approve his ownership if the sportsbooks in Caesars Palace, Flamingo, Paris Las Vegas and Rio would not take any bets on Celtics games.
VEGAS IRONY ... The Maloof family, which owns the Sacramento Kings, won’t book any NBA bets at their Palms Casino Resort, but you can book the Hardwood Suite ... if you can afford it at $25,000 a night. The suite features an autograph wall on which guests can leave notes for future inhabitants, like George Clooney’s message: “Guys, if you can’t get lucky in this suite, there’s no hope for you.”
THE DEALERS at Caesars Palace voted three to one to join the Transport Workers Union of America. In May, the Las Vegas Dealers, Local 721 was formed when dealers at the Wynn Las Vegas were the first dealers in Vegas to sign up for the union.
BILLIONAIRES have huge bank accounts and even bigger egos ... they’ve been known to fight about the size of their buildings (my casino is taller than yours), the size of their names on the buildings (my sign is bigger than yours) and now parking spaces. Idon Adelson (owner of the Venetian, Palazzo and Sands Convention Center) and the sixth richest human on the planet, got a concession from Vegas officials to reduce the number of stalls in his new convention center by about 60 percent. Steve Wynn (owner of the Wynn and Encore) and the 264th richest guy, argued that the new building had too few stalls, and conventioneers would be poaching parking from his casino (right next door).
FOR A GOOD CAUSE or ‘cause it feels good? The Rich Water Foundation (not to be confused with water for the rich) plans to use water from icebergs as drinking water for people in need, and to draw attention to the cause, Paris Hilton posed as a 007 Golden Girl (wearing only a coat of gold paint) in the Mohave Desert.
NOT FOR THE SHY or easily embarrassed ... The Adult Video Awards returns to the Mandalay Bay Jan. 12. Tera Patrick will serve as the hostess with the mostess. And tickets to the industry’s most prestigious event are $100 and $200 - or you can hang out in the hotel and watch the freak show for free.
BON APPETIT ... according to the Zagat Survey, the average price of an expensive meal in Paris is $74.24, London $79.46, Tokyo $69.58, and $113.78 in Las Vegas!
THE 2007 VH1 Rock Honors awards went to Heart. Sister Ann Wilson’s first-ever solo album, Hope & Glory, features Elton John, (sister) Nancy Wilson, kd lang, Wynona, Shawn Colvin and more. Check out the Wilson sisters (Heart) at the Las Vegas Hilton Feb. 15 and 16.
JUDY BELISARIO of Wahiawa won $2,190, Margaret Lyman of Honolulu won $3,600, Victor Au of Waianae won $5,291, Darrell Camat of Pearl City won $6,000, Rhodel Kay of Waipahu won $9,000 and Janis Anzai of Mililani won $14,400 from the generous slots at the Main Street Station!
