GROWING UP on Kahuku melons, I like a good watermelon more than the average Kimo, so my curiosity (and taste buds) started tingling when I read about the king of all Citrullus lanatus - a black Densuke watermelon that sold at auction in Japan for $6,125. Don’t know about you, but I would have to hit a really big jackpot before forking over that much for one, itchy, uno, ekahi 18-pound melon. GAMING IN VEGAS is down for the fourth month in a row ... In April the Strip was down 1.3 percent, or $524.1 million compared to the same month last year.

WHAT’S THE DEFINITION of optimistic in Vegas? The Nevada Taxicab Authority will be considering a “temporary” fuel surcharge of $0.25 a mile. The plan is to impose the surcharge and then remove it when - if - the price of gas goes back down.
