WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
THE “DAWG” celebrated his 52nd birthday last week at the Venetian’s Tao Nightclub. Some celebrity news media have made a big deal of this photo taken of Randy Jackson and a young model (that evening), even though he was with his wife Erica. What do you get a guy who has everything? If you’re American Idol co-judge Simon Cowell, you’d give one of your best buds a sword ... only to have him say “What the hell is this?”
THE PRICE OF a Vegas cab ride goes up after the Fourth of July weekend ... The Nevada Taxicab Authority has approved a 20-cent-per-mile increase and a 25-cent-per-mile fuel surcharge. The good news is ... well, there’s no good news unless you are profiting from the increased oil prices. But the double-edged taxi sword is the surcharge will go away if gas prices drop below $4 a gallon for 20 consecutive days. It could go up again, however, if the price goes over $5 a gallon. So a trip from the airport to the Golden Nugget that cost about $20 in May will cost about $24 this month. Get the latest cab fares to most of the Las Vegas hotels at www.KimosVegas.com.

THE $500 CHIPS used to have more white than purple coloring at Caesars Palace, but the Emperor changed his chips to the more commonly used heavy on the purple shade when the Desert Inn issued a $1 chip, which confused both dealers and players. That’s why, to this day, longtime Caesars employees call Barney’s (purple chips) “whites.” However, whites are still called “whites” at the Bellagio across the street, but those are $5,000, not $500 chips.
MAUI NO KA OI and so is “Da Spyder” Kendall Grove, who beat Evan Turner at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale Main Event at the Palms.

MANY LOCALS believe that eight is the magic number this year ... Survey after survey says we live in the best place - even the phone company validated us with a pair in the area code. But the universe will align and fortune will shine even more on 8/8/08 (eight minutes after 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. on those days will be even more auspicious). Lucky for me I’m not superstitious. The Stratosphere takes this a little further by marrying 88 couples at 8:08 p.m. on 8/8/08. The mass wedding ceremony is held on the 108th floor for the lucky price of ... you guessed it - $8.88. To lock in your marital bliss, call the casino host from the 808, Dale Matsumura.
DON’T GO looking for Pussycat Dolls action at Caesars on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday - that’s when the dolls get their beauty rest.
AT THE MANDALAY BAY, it was rock that busted scissors and made 23-year-old Sean Sears the U.S. Rock, Paper, Scissors champion. No longer a keiki’s game, he beat 300 other regional champs to win $50,000 cash and will represent all of America at the International Rock, Paper and Scissors Federation Championship in Beijing at the same time as the Summer Olympics. Look for the finals on Fox Sports in October.
SEVEN OUT ... First the Cosmopolitan lost its funding due to the subprime ordeal, then the Hearst Publishing Corporation put the final nail in the Cosmo coffin by suing the mega-resort for infringing on the trade name of their popular magazine Cosmopolitan. Can I order a Cosmo at the bar?
