WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
WHAT IS billionaire casino mogul Steve Wynn’s favorite drink? According to the Strippodcast guys, it’s an “Asian Equation” and can be ordered at every bar and club in the Wynn Las Vegas. If you’re not headed there soon, here’s the recipe for doit-yourselfers:
* 11/2 ounces TYKU Sake Liqueur
* 11/2 ounces Momokawa Coconut-Lemongrass Nigori Sake
* 1 ounce fresh sweet and sour Roll ingredients in a mixing glass and tin with ice three to four times to chill. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish: Akefir lime leaf floating on top of cocktail. Let me know if you feel like a billion bucks before, during or after ...
SEVEN OUT ... Monty Python’s Spamalot said aloha `oe Sunday night after 15 months at the Wynn.
NO ONE makes more prop bets than poker players, and now that the World Series of Poker is under way, millions of dollars are changing hands on these side bets ... 1996 WSOP winner Huck Seed won a $10,000 bet that he could learn to do a backflip in two months. The poker professor and vegan Howard Lederer won a $10,000 bet that he could eat a whole cheeseburger (I’d do that for a lot less) ... and there’s pro poker player Mike “The Mouth” Matusow, who lost 60 pounds to win $100,000.
WSOP officials say this year’s champion will take home $9.12 million (compared to last year’s $8.25 million), and 666 players will get a piece of the $64.3 million cash prize pool.
DAS WHY it’s called the Ninth Island ... According to the 2007 census, the number of Asians and Pacific Islanders in Nevada will increase by 67 percent, or 211,000 people, this decade, representing 8.2 percent of Nevada’s total population of 2.6 million people.
WHAT’S BIGGER than the Bellagio Fountains, shoots 22,000 gallons of water 50 stories in the air, has more than 6,600 lights, is about two football fields long and costs $218 million? It’s the largest fountain in the world and will be the centerpiece of a Downtown Burj Dubai project when it’s completed next year.
LAST SEPTEMBER, ABC aired Elvis: Viva Las Vegas, which chronicled the King’s life and music. The must-have DVD for any Elvis/Vegas collector will be available exclusively at Wal-Mart Aug. 8 and will feature performances by Faith Hill, Paul McCartney, Three 6 Mafia, Daughtry, Bruce Springsteen, Celine Dion, Jon Bon Jovi and more.
DRESSED AS a general with 11 stars, Phil Hellmuth marched into the Rio with his army of 11 girls ... one for each of his WSOP bracelets.
QUOTE OF the week: “We don’t think of money the way that salaried people do. We don’t love money the way rich people do. We know we can always make more of it,” said poker pro Daniel Negreanu.
EASIER SAID than done ... “Take the Money & Run” next month at the Orleans Arena features the Steve Miller Band and special guest Joe Cocker.
AT THIS YEAR’S Casino Chip & Gaming Tokens Collectors Club Convention, the owner of the Palms Hotel Casino, George Maloof, was the high bidder on an original painting by Carlos Cartagena called “The Early Days in Las Vegas.” His bid of $3,500 went into the club’s “Museum of Gaming History” building fund, a nonprofit project designed to archive and educate. A magnanimous guy, he also donated the painting to the museum. Check them out on the web at www.museumofgaminghistory.org.
