THOUSANDS OF Vegas Happens Here readers voted for the worst Vegas comics. Finishing in a tie for first place are Carrot Top and the new Wynn Encore headliner Danny Gans. The Strip’s funniest people (according to the same poll) are Mac King, Rita Rudner, Wayne Brady and George Wallace.
PARIS HILTON may be closer to opening a Club Paris in Las Vegas, telling In Touch magazine, “I think I found a really good space, but I can’t tell anyone.”
CAR GUYS ARE feeling like kids waiting for Christmas as the inaugural “World’s Greatest Collector Car Event” heads for the Mandalay Bay Oct. 15. So far this year, Barrett-Jackson has auctioned 1,672 vehicles for a gross of $111 million (proving the economy is only bad for some of us). On the Vegas auction block: William Shatner and George Barris’s custom-built bike, a ‘55 V8 Corvette (original price $ 2,934), a ‘69 Camaro Z28, a ‘66 Shelby Cobra and lots more ... TWO SUBSIDIARIES of Dubai World (co-owners of the MGM Mirage CityCenter) have just bought a fifth of Cirque du Soleil. Founder Guy Laliberté says the cash will accelerate Cirque projects all over the globe, including a 1,800-seat theater in the city. More than 10 million people see a Cirque show every year - that’s about $700 million in ticket sales. The five resident Vegas shows (O, Mystere, Zumanity, KA! and LOVE) employ more than 1,500 people, and two new shows, Believe and Elvis, are currently in production.

THE CITY OF Henderson and the Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club’s 18th annual Prince Jonah Kuhio Ho’olaule’a Pacific Islands Festival is happening Sept. 13. GET A LOOK at the future now ... the Excalibur poker room is replacing its dealers and tables with new electronic PokerPro tables. Players sign up by adding funds into an ATM-like account that’s swiped at the new tables to buy-in (and you reverse the process to cash out). If the new dealerless tables become popular with players, look for them to migrate into casinos everywhere.
