JOE FRANCIS, creator of the Girls Gone Wild franchise, is under investigation for stiffing the Wynn Las Vegas out of $2 million. He’s filed a counter claim saying that the hotel lures high rollers with alcohol, prostitutes and illegal drugs, and that they created phony markers, intentionally miscalculating and forging high rollers’signatures. Who would you believe, a guy who gets girls drunk to make soft-core porn and who unlawfully deducted $20 million on his tax returns or the state-regulated, publicly traded casino?
A FEW MONTHS AGO we were all concerned about our keiki and mo`opuna playing with toys containing lead paint ... but what about us ol’ futs? Since the beginning of the mass-produced poker chip, lead has been mixed with clay and other materials to make a heftier token. Now, an Oakland, Calif., nonprofit group has secured the world’s first clean poker chip agreement with 21 casinos and the largest chip supplier in the United States. Paulson’s has agreed to manufacture unleaded poker chips, and the casinos have pledged to get the lead out by replacing worn and broken chips with the new ones. If you’re thinking about switching to those new chipless poker, blackjack and roulette tables to avoid lead poisoning, your exposure is minimal as long as you don’t eat the casinos’colorful currency. And it’s always a good idea to wash your hands after a session at the tables.
DID THEY OR DIDN’T THEY lose money? ... Only their bookies know for sure. Gambling revenue in Nevada for the month of June dropped 1.1 percent to $949.3 million, but June ‘07 had one more weekend day then June ‘08. The Strip was the big loser, down 6.6 percent to $486.4 million, while downtown casinos were up 10 percent. Meanwhile, the sports books were up 62 percent!

BY DIVIDING ITS $890 million renovation of the Convention Center into three phases, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor Authority is hoping to save money on financing, because the expenses would increase as the Vegas economy improves over the next few years.
