THE SHOW that changed the face and box offices of Las Vegas shows, Mystère, is celebrating 15 years at Treasure Island. To date, more than 9 million people have seen the show that Steve Wynn signed to a long-term deal in 1993. He built a theater for Cirque du Soleil, and its first performance was on Christmas Day of the same year.

SNAKE EYES ... A Las Vegas woman volunteered to baby-sit a friend’s pet python. Returning from her bathroom, she found the 325-pound, 18-foot-long snake wrapped around her 3-year-old son,who was turning blue. She stabbed the snake 17 times and a neighbor helped pry the boy away, and then it took six metro officers and an animal control officer to subdue it. Officials also seized a 14-foot-long python and other snakes from the dumb asp’s apartment.

BARACK OBAMA in the house ... After being delayed by customs at McCarran Airport, the Punahou grad is the fifth president in Madame Tussauds House of Wax. “He was the No. 1 request overnight as soon as he got the nomination for the presidency,” says Adrian Jones, general manager.
ACCORDING TO THE FAA, McCarran International was the sixth-busiest airport in the U.S., with 578,946 flights last year. Atlanta was No. 1, followed by O’Hare (Chicago), Dallas-Fort Worth, Denver and Los Angeles.

IDEAS FLOATING around to help the Las Vegas economy… Lower the legal gambling age to 18, legalize a lottery and legalize prostitution. I know what you’re thinking: It’s not legal now? Nope ... The Constitution of the State of Nevada (1864) law that puts a smile on casino executives faces says “No lottery shall be authorized by this state, nor shall the sale of lottery tickets be allowed.”
