The Rolling Stones hit Vegas
Nov. 18
WELCOME to Kimo’s Vegas! This week we’re talking story with Karin Davis from the Westin Casuarina Las Vegas, and Frank Legato, author of How to Win Millions Playing Slot Machines, Thursday at 9 a.m. on Sports Radio 1420am.
SPEAKING OF sports bets, didya know that you won’t be able to place a bet on the 2007 NBA All Star Game in Las Vegas? That’s one of the city’s concessions to the NBA to host the game (and maybe get a little closer to having their own team).
HAPPY 75th to Stardust Exec George Oishi ... he’s so popular they had to have two birthday parties for him. No truth to the rumor that there was a crap game going on, but a few Stardust execs let him win on the golf course.
THAT WAS Michael Jordan you saw in Vegas last week. He was there for his four-day fantasy basketball camp. How much kala do you need to go one-on-one with the greatest b’baller of all time? Try $15,000 (auwe, bruddah Michael probably lost more than that playing blackjack).
SO YOU’RE tired of flying Vacations Hawaii like the rest of us? Wayne Newton’s personal plane the “Desert Eagle” is for sale. The Fokker F28 was built in 1969 and has had almost 100,000 landings. How much for your very own piece of paradise in the sky? The ad says “Make Offer.” I wonder if the guys at MidWeek would let me expense the plane?
IS RADFORD High School graduate Bette Midler joining Celine Dion and Barry Manilow as the next resident headliner on the strip? The folks at Caesars Palace are offering an Elton John-like deal to the Divine Miss M.
SPEAKING OF the Divine Miss M, Barry Manilow was her musical director in the ‘70s, and you can see him do a couple of songs from his Hilton show on the Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon live from the L.V. Hilton.
MARGERY BEARDSLEE won $1,229,241 on the $1 Wheel of Fortune at the Monte Carlo; then at the Las Vegas Hilton, Mary Wilson hits the 25 cent Wheel of Fortune for $1,242,484. All of this happened a few days after Pat & Vanna taped a week’s worth of shows at the Hilton. Think 13 is an unlucky number? Mary was staying on the 13th floor of the Hilton when she hit the progressive jackpot.
THE ROLLING STONES, A Bigger Bang Tour started in Boston a few days ago, and it rolls into Las Vegas Nov. 18 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Tickets start at $131 and go to $472 and will sell out in a day or two. Don’t be surprised to see scalpers selling good seats the day of for upward of $1,000 each. eBay or a close relative working at the MGM or Virgin Records may be a good alternative for tickets.
THE AQUAE Sulis Spa at the JW Marriott Las Vegas is teaching belly dancing (because one can only gamble so much) every Sunday at 1 p.m. Deneen Miller has been teaching and belly dancing for more than eight
years, and the class focuses on percussive hips and shimmies, and culminates with female energy healing meditation. What, no hula or Tahitian?
