WELCOME TO Kimo’s Vegas ... The Player’s Edge!
THE MARRYING KIND ... Miss Ko’Olina Hawaii Yvette Nii now says “I do” six times a week as Tina in Tony and Tina’s Wedding at Planet Hollywood. What’s it like to star in a Vegas production? The Campbell High School grad says “Dry ... I’m shedding like a reptile.” But, she says, “I feel very fortunate to be able to work alongside some of the finest actors in the industry.” You never know who you’ll meet at the No. 1 comedy dinner show. Recent guest stars included Joe Gannascoli (Sopranos), Rowdy Roddy Piper and singer Tiffany.
BEING THE BUDDY of an heiress is good work if you can find it ... Paris Hilton celebrated her 28th birthday with 20 of her closest friends. They flew to Vegas on a private jet, ate at Nobu’s, partied at Body English (now here’s where it gets weird) and then were serenaded in a suite by a drum band dressed as Sesame Street characters while circus performers did their circus acts.
ALSO SPOCKED celebrating his birthday in Vegas (albeit just slightly more subdued) was Tommy Silva with the other T in T&T Tinting Specialists, his wife, Terri. He said we all gotta check out their new location that replaced Costco at 3035 Koapaka St.
MEMBERS OF THE 442 had a reunion downtown ... The baby of “H Company” is Mike Tsuji at 85!
KCCN FM100 is giving away free Vacations Hawaii packages to celebrate May Day in Las Vegas with Lina Girl and Pipi. You always see local folks rubbing the belly of the Cal’s Buddha for luck, but based on personal experience with the aforementioned charm, you might be better off strokin’ Pipi’s tummy ... On second thought, maybe not.
THE ROYAL TREATMENT ... Evelyn Hasegawa and Kei Inouye of Honolulu and Anna Asinsin from Kailua won $4,000 at the Cal. The winning continued with Danny Collier of Wailuku, who won $10,000, and Troy Tanaka, who won $20,000!
THE PENNY MEGABUCKS jackpot, like the Hawaiian Rail Moho, has become a thing of the past, but the good news is that the $1 and penny machines are now tied together and share the same $18.7 million jackpot ... The $1 machine is statistically overdue at $16 million, but has been as high at $35 million. The last time it was up there, Don Ho told me he and Haumea hopped a plane to “take a chance” ...
THIS MONTH, Oceanic Cable’s Around Hawaii has some tips to save you even more $$$ in Vegas.
SINCE LAST YEAR’S fourth quarter, Vegas hotels are reporting that 340 groups have canceled meetings, resulting in 236,700 lost hotel room nights. The average rate for an evening’s lodging is down almost 20 percent to $104.89.
