THE NEWS of Michael Jackson’s passing no doubt influenced the prices in a memorabilia auction that was scheduled prior to his death. Before the first item went on the block, the entire collection was expected to fetch $6,000. But when the hammer fell for the last time, the 21 items sold for more than $205,000 in Las Vegas. The most expensive item sold was a Swarovski crystal-beaded shirt from the 1984 Victory Tour ($42,000).
ON THE PLANET Hollywood marquee ... an image of Michael Jackson and the caption “You will be missed.”
AT A VEGAS memorabilia store, an autographed image of Michael Jackson and Bubbles was selling for $1,295, and a framed autographed Bad album sold for $2,295.
MEANWHILE, Madame Tussauds, the famous wax museum, put its life-sized likeness of the King of Pop out front so visitors could pay homage for free.
IF YOU’VE BEEN on a plane more than once, odds are you’ve ignored a pre-flight video or two. Southwest Airlines’ David Holmes’s (The Rapping Flight Attendant) video has more than 430,000 YouTube views ... But Air New Zealand is so serious about passenger safety (and making us pay attention) it has invested in a pre-flight video called Bare Essentials that’s even more difficult to ignore. A BIG KIMO’S VEGAS congrats to Roosevelt grad and HPD Capt. Ken Lee on his three World Series of Poker cashes this year ($13,911), making it a total of six WSOP “cashes” ($35,078) ... Will this be the year someone from Hawaii brings home the WSOP title?
IN BETTE MIDLER’s The Showgirl Must Go On, she gives props to being born and raised in Hawaii, plays the ukulele and makes you laugh and sing from beginning to end.
