WE’RE ALL concerned about the soaring gas prices, but in Vegas they’re double worried. Seems the price of a choice piece of prime is going the way of gasoline and fine wine. Yep, you’re looking at $100 for a Kobe filet mignon at Craftsteak, $175 at Bradley Ogden or $190 for a 10-ounce Washugyu Kobe tenderloin at Shintaro’s. Perhaps you’d like a nice white wine to go with your expensive Kobe. How about a 1787 Chateau d’Yquem for $56,000, or maybe a nice Bordeaux, 1787 Chateau Lafite for $160,000? You know, $4 a gallon sounds like a bargain.
ANDRE AGASSI’S Grand Slam for Children raised $10 million for the charity. Performing at the mega event: Celine Dion, Duran Duran, Earth, Wind & Fire, George Lopez, Glenn Frey, Mary J. Blige, Robin Williams, Usher and special guest Barbra Streisand! Frequent island hopper David Foster was the musical director. So you missed the show, but still want to help out? Break out your checkbook (or better still, Walter Dods’checkbook), because they’ve got some great auctions, including Golf with Ray Romano and a 2006 CLS500 Mercedes, Breakfast at Tiffany’s (complete with a 18 karat diamond watch) or you can spend a week on Richard Branson’s private island, have dinner and see a Broadway show with Robin Williams, or shoot some hoops with the Miami Heat. EVERY YEAR more and more people visit Vegas from a foreign country. In 2004 the top five countries were: United Kingdom (392,000), Japan (217,000), Germany (119,000), France (97,000) and Australia (82,000). Industry experts were surprised by the results because the computer trade show that choke foreigners go to was cancelled that year.
