MW’s impact
I drove past the Old Stadium Park today and was pleased to see that all the homeless people living on the sidewalk - as noted by Bob Jones - were gone. Don’t know if Mayor Carlisle responded personally to Mr. Jones’column, but someone at City Hall obviously got the message.
It’s a tribute to the power of MidWeek.

Enforce laws
I read Bob Jones’piece on the homeless problem we have here. The biggest reason for the problem is the ACLU, which fights for the “rights” of the homeless to live wherever they want. The other reason is that nobody wants to be “the bad guy” when it comes to enforcing laws and ordinances. Good luck getting HPD to enforce any laws regarding where the homeless sleep. Here’s hoping HPD will step up to all kinds of enforcement.

Pay, and save
Regarding Bob Jones’ recent column on going on Medicare after his wife retired and lost medical insurance: As a conservative, I assume health care will cost more as I get older. As a liberal, Mr. Jones says we blew it by “not going for allout health insurance.” In other words, lump another of his bills on someone else to pay, namely our children.
Instead, how about just pay your own bills and stop expecting the government (taxpayers) to pick up your tab?
If the government would like to help (get off our backs), they could allow us to have medical savings accounts.

Gun sanity
Thank you to Dan Boylan for his column “It’s Time To Stand Up To The NRA.” I don’t mind guns - there are some hunters in my family - but there needs to be some sanity involved. There is no way that evil madman who shot Congresswoman Giffords should have been able to obtain a gun. My real concern for America is that we seem unable to solve our own problems that threaten our future.

No accusations
I was pleased to see that none of the MidWeek columnists who opined on the Tucson shooting echoed the national firestorm of blame and accusations. Just another reason I appreciate your fine publication.
