A bang-up job
Jade Moon’s column on cliches, “At The End Of The Day, Don’t Say It,” was spot-on, and at the end of the day it’s a real keeper! Now let’s move on.

Inappropriate
Every week, I anxiously await the arrival of my Midweek not only for the grocery ads, but also to spend the evening reading that week’s issue from cover to cover.
Last week, I was embarrassed by the photo that was chosen to appear on the cover of your publication. I felt very fortunate that my children are grown, because if I had small children in the house, this issue’s cover would be going straight to the trash it even feels inappropriate for the bottom of the birdcage. How would a parent explain this cover photo to an 8-year-old? I understand that the photo was meant to very clearly illustrate that Kea Ho is not a little girl anymore but felt that the photo was tacky and inappropriate.
Perhaps it would have been an acceptable choice to include on the inside of the publication along with the article, but a skimpily clad (was she even wearing the top to her bathing suit?) sultry-looking young woman is not the sight that I expect to have gracing the cover of a publication that is delivered to virtually every home on the island and contains some genuinely great journalism. In my opinion, this photo is more suited to the cover of Maxim.
I am disappointed in this lapse in good judgment, and trust that the cover of next week’s MidWeek issue will be more suitable for young children’s eyes as well as my bird’s cage.

Just beautiful
I think this week’s cover is a wonderful rendition of beauty and elegance. I have never seen Don Ho’s daughter before this, and I believe she is very beautiful and carries on her father’s legacy very well. I really love the pearls she is wearing, too. It gives her sexy persona a touch of elegance and class. I really love this week’s cover.

Hawaiian facts
I take issue with letterwriter Kanani Lee’s “fact” that Hawaiians remain second-class citizens in the Islands. Under statehood, Hawaiians have been assisted with many government offices, including the Native Hawaiian Health Care Program, Hawaiian Home Lands, Native Hawaiian Organizations (NHOs), Office of Hawaiian Affairs, ‘Imi Hale, to name just a few. A helping hand has been extended, and it would be heartening to have that acknowledged.
