Protest the war!
Bravo, Dan Boylan! Yes, instead of protesting silly things like an ocean ferry - which actually has the potential to do a lot of good - we should all be out protesting this idiotic war in Iraq, and putting pressure on our senators and congress people to finally stand up to the president.

Right on, braddah
Just wanted to write in to say I really got a big kick out of Don Chapman’s column featuring comments by Braddah Bash, “A Note, Li’ Dat, To Kauai Protesters.”
I totally agree with Braddah Bash (and I assume Mr. Chapman). If Braddah needs some Protesters (including bullies to harass them at the gates) to protest Kauaians coming here on any airlines, this can be arranged. Just let me know! We can tell them we don’t want their added traffic, invasive attitudes, invasive idiot species that they are, their surfers coming to enjoy our epic south swells as well as the North Shore, their fishermen clogging our spots, shopping, restaurants, the zoo, symphony, shows, concerts, hospitals, etc.
We on Oahu can save our aloha for our tourists and other out-of-state visitors who enjoy as well as respect our culture and our aina. Shame on Kauai. Most of my family is from there and have lived there since Hawaiians went by one name only. Last time I checked, we were still considered as one, the state of Hawaii. Most of the Protesters are transplants, not the natives. Look at the videos.
My sentiments are the same for the Mauians.

Sierra Club phonies
An open Letter to the Sierra Club of Hawaii:
We will take you at your word that you asked that an Environmental Assessment be produced by the Hawaiian Superferry because government/public funds were used to improve harbors, piers and/or docks by their company.
In that spirit, the people of Hawaii would like the Sierra Club to research whether any govern-ment/public money was ever used to improve or alter any water channels, harbors, piers, docks or airport facilities, including run-ways and buildings for Matson, Young Brothers, Horizon, NCL or any of the airlines that do commerce with the State of Hawaii.
If you find that even one penny of government/public funds were used for such purpose, we expect you to file in the State of Hawaii and Federal Courts a request that each and every one of those companies carry out either an Environmental Assessment or an Environmental Impact Statement before they are allowed to continue to use any of the State’s facilities.
To not do so would expose the Sierra Club as hypocrites and frauds, not deserving our financial donations or other support.

An EIS for all
I watched with no small degree of disgust while a ragtag group of ne’er-do-wells made a joke out of another attempt to bring Hawaii into the modern world.
As I reflected on the reasons given for their opposition to the Superferry, I had an epiphany of sorts and wondered aloud to myself about how these phony, so called “environmentalists” might react to a dose of their own medicine. In the nearly 32 years I have lived on these Islands, I have seen surfers repeatedly collide with endangered sea turtles, drag their surfboard fins along the coral reefs and defile beaches with trash and drugs. Surely those who say they care so deeply about such things should demand surfers and surfing in general to be the subject of an EIS. I have seen uncountable kayakers paddle so close to humpback whales that they actually touch them and then brag about how great the experience had been. Shouldn’t kayakers and kayaking in general be the subject of their own EIS?
As for other businesses that would provide much needed jobs, health care and taxes that could be used to help the people, they should take their business to a more forward thinking place, like maybe Uganda or Lower Slobovia. What kinds of people are actually running this place?

Warriors will lose
Bob Hogue’s prediction of a perfect 13-0 UH football season is a pipe dream. No matter how good they are at home, Hawaii always finds some way to lose on the road to inferior teams. At best UH will be 9-3, which would be respectable if it weren’t for the very weak schedule.
And why do they play invisible schools like Charleston Southern every year?
