Helping our vets
The Oahu Veterans Council and Center staff would like to express their sincere appreciation for the outpouring of support from the business community and the citizens of Oahu as a result of MidWeek‘s coverage of the recent graffiti that appeared on the roof of the Oahu Veterans Center in Foster Village.
As a result of their support, the graffiti has been removed and the roof has been restored to its original condition. Monies raised from the center’s Nov. 8 annual fundraiser can now be used for the purpose it was originally intended: to maintain and expand assistance for our Wounded Warriors and other programs for our active duty, veterans, their families and our community.
And thank you to Steve Murray and the MidWeek editors for the coverage and the fantastic one-page spread. We have had many positive comments about it and it surely added to the support we received that resulted in the repairs to the center with no cost to the council.

Liu and Lingle
Thanks to Bob Jones for shining a light on the shameful behavior of state business director Ted Liu for his clearly prejudiced handling of the $8.7 million Hydrogen Investment Fund, “Gov. Lingle And The Liu Ruse.”
And I think Mr. Jones is right in asserting that the governor had to be in on the deal.
I don’t always agree with him, but Mr. Jones is an excellent journalist.

Naive about Islam
I could not believe editor Don Chapman writing about how much he admired the Muslims he’s met. He must be as naïve about their true motives as Barack Obama.

The wrong god
So what if a Muslim prayed to Allah for Don Chapman’s mother. Allah is not God, so it fell on deaf ears. Mr. Chapman should attend a Christian church and say the prayer himself to the true God.

Sound familiar?
So Dan Boylan doesn’t like cable TV political commentators Keith Olbermann, Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity because these “blabberers reek of arrogance and self-satisfaction.”
Sounds as if Mr. Boylan is describing himself.

Capital egos
Couldn’t agree more with Andy Rooney - why on earth would anyone want to be president? It’s such a tough job, the answer has to be a huge ego.

Laughing it up
Like letter writer Richard Lee, I too enjoy (and look forward to) the humor columns by Bruce Cameron, DL Stewart and Chuck Shepherd. But he forgot the bestest of them all - Hawaii’s own Ron Nagasawa. His column is the first thing I look for in MidWeek.
