Robert Ristelhueber doesn’t give all the facts in his letter that makes it appear Martin Luther King Jr. would have been an ally in the quest for same-sex marriage.
Actually, King was first and foremost a Christian preacher who stood by biblical values that gave him his enormous moral standing and leadership ability. It’s very disrespectful to characterize King in any other way.
While it is true that King was advised by Bayard Rustin during the civil rights era, Mr. Ristelhueber doesn’t care to mention that Rustin was a prominent member of the U.S. Communist Party and was seen as a liability to the civil rights movement. This was the same Communist Party that was taking direct orders from Joseph Stalin.
Mr. Ristelhueber and the homosexual community fail to understand what it means to be a minority, given that they can choose to be gay or not, whereas African Americans don’t have the same ability.

Bishop brouhaha
I certainly found out a great deal about my schoolmates and lifelong friends Dr. Michael Chun and Oswald Stender from reading Bob Jones’ column on Bishop Estate trustees. I spent 12 years analyzing what Jones incisively and deftly summarizes from another perspective, and with a flair - voila!
Mr. Jones deftly concludes his column: “Wait for the facts before you blurt out an opinion.”
And congratulations to MidWeek for its publishing achievements and 25 years of opinions.

A healthcare right
Rick Hamada’s column on healthcare reform is such a bunch of falsehoods, distortions and scare tactics, it is a pathetic piece of journalism. I could dispute about 10 separate statements of your misinformation and the twisting that you have done.
First, the Democrats are not looking for a system that will have the government “administer, hyper-regulate and supersede physician recommendation.”
This is more of the Harry and Louise scare tactics that big business interests used (aided and abetted mostly by conservatives in Congress) to delay universal healthcare for everybody from happening a decade and a half ago.
Regarding whether healthcare is a right, that’s a question that any humane society should not even need to ask. Do we question that anyone in our country, no matter how poor, has a “right” to a free elementary school education?

A poor choice
I am astonished and angry that Gov. Linda Lingle, via her “ideas person” Corrie Heck, will be hosting Zionist Israel’s Tzipi Livni as one of nine “leaders” for a September International Women’s Leadership Conference. Livni, prior to her current job as head of the “opposition” party Kadima, was foreign minister as the Zionist state killed or maimed 7,000 concentration-camp-inmate Gazan Palestinians.
Invite a better leader - e.g., any one of a number of Palestinian Christian or Muslim women who must lead their families and communities as they are deliberately impoverished by their belligerent occupier.

Chase it away!
I enjoyed Rick Hamada’s column “The Latest Dire Threat To Hawaii.” It really makes you wonder what this state is coming to.
First, we chase away the Superferry. And then we chase away the Wienermobile. What can people in this state possibly think of next to chase away?
And isn’t there anything more important in Hawaii to think about than the Wienermobile? Hey, even if it brought just a little happiness to our children, let’s chase it away!
