Barry’s birth

Jerry Coffee could have saved a lot of time and space with his “birther” column if he had just checked the Honolulu Advertiser archives for an article by Dan Nakaso on Dec. 22, 2008 (page B-1). Mr. Nakaso interviewed Eleanor Nordyke, who gave birth to twin girls within hours of Mrs. Obama giving birth to Barry at Kapiolani Hospital. The kids went on to graduate from Punahou together in 1979.

I have been voting for our president of the United States for many years, and a few times I’ve been on the losing side. After getting over it, you have to realize that the office of the presidency deserves the respect and patriotism of every United States citizen. That is what is important. It is also important to pray for our president, his family and all who serve him. What a shame if Mr. Coffee and others he represents do not have it in themselves to do that.

World-class

Like most readers, I probably take for granted the people who produce and contribute to MidWeek. But reading Don Chapman’s column about editorial cartoonists Roy Chang and DickAdair winning top honors in the state made me stop and realize that the paper has some world-class talent. Amazing that it arrives in my mailbox every week for free. Please keep up the great work, and keep my MidWeek coming!

Roy’s the real deal

I just read Don Chapman’s column on MidWeek editorial cartoon-ists taking the top two places at the Pa’i Awards. Both cartoons - by Dick Adair and Roy Chang - are great, and I was particularly glad to hear that Roy won the top honor.

I am a cartoonist but was having a hard time getting published, so last fall I e-mailed Roy for advice. Honestly, I expected him to just blow me off, but boy, was I wrong! He sent me back a bunch of suggestions and possibilities, and one of them was to contact Hawaii Hochi.

I did, Hochi picked me up, and my toons are now in their paper! This would not have happened without Roy’s help. Even afterward, he stays in touch with me to coach me on cartoons. What an amazing guy!

Congratulations to Roy! He well-deserves this award for his toons as well as who he is!

Silent majority

I thought I should take a minute and let you know how much my wife and I enjoy Michelle Malkin’s column. We hope MidWeek continues to carry her column. She is the only columnist in MidWeek who states the case for the silent majority.

Bashing Obama

I love MidWeek with the exception of one particular columnist: Michelle Malkin.

When she and Barack Obama were younger, did he steal her lunch, step on her toe or yank her ponytail or something? Every week it seems her column is just a full-on rant about Barack Obama and what he has done lately that she does not like, which is apparently everything.

Now, we all have our opinions about government officials, but she writes a syndicated column read by the “masses.” Are there not other problems in the world or people to cut down? Her column needs to be renamed “Barack’s Weekly Bungles” or “1001 Reasons Why I Hate Obama” or something like that. Seems to me that she is lucky he is in office; otherwise, she would be out of work. She had better hope he gets re-elected in 2012 so she can extend her contract by four years.
