C.U. no-shows
Where were MidWeek‘s conservative columnists on HB444?
Larry Price kind of tiptoed around the issue.
Rick Hamada was writing about a restaurant.
And Susan Page was writing about herself.
One is left to conclude that these staunch conservatives could not bring themselves to stand up for denying fellow citizens equal rights before the law.
Why did Gov. Lingle really veto the bill? After being reminded by Dan Boylan that Lingle gave the nominating speech for Sarah Palin at the 2008 GOP convention, I couldn’t help thinking Lingle has to keep her conservative bonafides intact and hope she’ll get hired by Palin for her run for president. This is the governor, after all, who called George W. Bush the greatest president ever.
Not much argument, I believe, that she will be regarded as Hawaii’s worst governor. At least until Mufi takes over.

Lingle legacy
Larry Price had it right in his column “Lingle’s True Legacy Is In The Judiciary.” Few decisions that a governor or president make have longer lasting impact than appointments to the Supreme Court. As Mr. Price points out, Gov. Lingle will have made three by the time her term ends, including the next chief justice. Let’s hope she is not as cynical in that decision as she was in vetoing HB444.

Answering Jones
I can answer Bob Jones question about how Linda Lingle went from a Democrat to a Republican. She obviously educated herself and found out that the Republican philosophical ideal of less government and fewer taxes makes for a more free and productive society. Government does a very poor job of handling money, and government entitlement programs have created generations of lazy couch potatoes draining our country dry. People will rise to the challenge when they have to, and for those who truly cannot, churches, legitimate non-government charitable organizations and generous individuals do a fine job.
And if Mr. Jones’ statement that Linda Lingle is pro-choice is accurate, it will only take education for her to come to realize that abortion is murder, plain and simple, and it is never the right choice.
