A great cop

Thank you to MidWeek for sharing the remarkable story of the first woman undercover narcotics officer with HPD. Thank you, Joanne Takasato, for your service and sacrifice, and for putting up with a scumbag of a boss. I hope things have improved at HPD.

My question is, where can I find a copy of her book In Search of Truth and Honor?

Tooting his horn

We can always count on Bob Jones to toot his own horn, as in his column “The Firing Of Gen. Edwin A. Walker.” Something tells me the general was on thin ice as it was before Mr. Jones reportage.

No responsibility

I seldom agree with Jerry Coffee, but his column “Uncle Sam’s Bailout Bandwagon” hits the nail on the head when it comes to be people acting irresponsibly.

My politics are considerably to the left of Mr. Coffee’s, but like him I pay my taxes, pay my credit card balances - and resent like hell people who don’t honor those responsibilities. I, too, worry that we are raising a generation of Americans with no sense at all of personal responsibility.

My new favorite part of MidWeek is the Crime-Stoppers follow-ups. It’s great to see so many bad guys and gals being taken off the streets of Honolulu because of MidWeek (and tips from us readers). This is a great public service.

Imperial wars

Thank you to Patrick Buchanan for calling our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan what they are - “imperial” - and for pointing out that the trillions we’ve wasted over there would be much better spent at home, actually making America more secure. Sadly, the intelligent and thoughtful Mr. Buchanan is not your typical conservative.
