Bernadette Shimono has been promoted to vice president of finance for Hawaii Public Radio (HPR). Shimono has experience as an accountant/accounts receivable supervisor at Chaminade University. She joined HPR as controller in 1992.

Nalani Say has been hired to head the documentation and customer service department for Young Brothers, Limited/Hawaiian Tug & Barge. Say’s responsibilities include ensuring consistent, responsive and accurate handling of outbound and inbound cargo, while also overseeing timely and correct data entry and documentation, billing and invoicing.

Elmer K. Ka`ai Jr. has been appointed government relations manager to the University Advancement Team for the University of Hawaii. Ka`ai previously worked as grants specialist, program manager and senior legislative adviser for the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

John Peterson has been named a previews specialist for Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties’ Kahala office. Peterson has more than 30 years experience in the real estate profession and specializes in selling high-end residential properties. He also has extensive background in designing and remodeling homes on Oahu.

Tammy K. Nakamatsu has been promoted to senior vice president and senior human resources manager for Bank of Hawaii. Nakamatsu joined the bank in 1988 as a human resources specialist and most recently served as vice president and human resources organizational manager.

Foster “Mike” Afalava has been promoted to field supervisor for Hawaii Self Storage. He previously served as a pickup driver for the company. In his new position, Afalava will manage Hawaii Self Storage’s pick-up scheduling, maintenance tasks, safety training and labor projects for the company, as well as directly managing his four-member crew.

Tom Allen has earned the professional designation of certified insurance counselor for Insurance Factors in Honolulu after successfully completing a rigorous insurance education program sponsored by the Society of Certified Insurance Counselors.

Nicole Okamura has been named account executive for Hawaii Dental Service marketing and sales team. Okamura will oversee marketing and servicing dental benefits plans to meet the needs of employers statewide. Prior to joining HDS, she served as a supplemental benefits coordinator for ProService Hawaii.
