James A. Ajello has been elected by the board of trustees at Hawaii Pacific University as its newest board member. Ajello is senior vice president, treasurer and chief financial officer of Hawaiian Electric Industries, where he is responsible for accounting tax, investor relations, corporate finance, treasury and enterprise risk management.
Roger Higa has been named fund development and marketing director for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu. Higa will be responsible for the development and implementation of all fundraising activities, donor relations database management, and marketing and advertising efforts. He has been directly involved in the nonprofit arena for eight years.
Robert Bley-Vroman has been appointed interim dean of UH Manoa College of Languages, Linguistics and Literature. He has served as chairman of both the Department of Second Language Studies and the Second Language Teaching and Curriculum Center. Bley-Vroman also was the first director of the National Foreign Language Resource Center. Prior to coming to the UH Manoa campus, he taught English and applied linguistics in Romania at Universitatea din Cluj, and linguistics at the University of Texas at Austin.
Jennifer Lam has been promoted to senior vice president and portfolio manager in Bank of Hawaii’s Treasury Department. She has been a portfolio manager since 2008 and joined the bank in 2005 as a product manager in the Investment Products Department. Prior to this, Lam served as an investment analyst with the World Bank Group in Washington, D.C., and an investment banking analyst with Credit Suisse First Boston in New York City.
Drake Tanabe has been named president of Hawaii Central Credit Union. Tanabe has nearly 20 years’ experience at the credit union and most recently served as director of Support Services for the University of Hawaii FCU.
