Patricia Mau Shimizu is Hawaii State Bar Association’s new executive director. She will lead a staff of 15 and have overall management responsibility for the association, overseeing programs and policy activities adopted by HSBA’s board, its governing and policy-making body. Shimizu currently is the chief clerk of the Hawaii state House of Representatives, a position she has held since 1993. She has worked in several offices within the Legislature including House Majority chief clerk.

Derek Akiyoshi has been appointed administrator at Maluhia hospital, one of 13 facilities operated and managed by Hawaii Health Systems Corporation. Akiyoshi served as assistant administrator at Convalescent Center of Honolulu. He also has held administrative positions at Hawaiian Telcom as human resources business unit manager, and as assistant operations manager at Hawaii Transfer Company Ltd. Additionally, he held various administrative positions at Grace Pacific Corporation for 18 years.

Anna Edmonds has been appointed academic affairs manager of University of Phoenix, which has campuses in downtown Honolulu, Kapolei and Mililani. Edmonds will be responsible for the hiring, training and evaluation for the academic affairs department support and professional staff. She will oversee others as they engage in faculty recruitment, selection and training processes. Born in Uzbekistan, Edmonds received her Master of Science in computer networks and communications from University of Westminster in London. She also holds a postgraduate certificate of special study in teaching and learning from Westminster International University.

Liane Vea has been appointed reservations manager for Waikiki Parc Hotel. Vea will oversee reservations at the 297-room hotel. Vea began her career at Ilikai Hotel, working her way up from reservations clerk to director of reservations.
