It’s been four exciting and successful years since Kawao blasted its way onto local airwaves, and the two guys who started it all, Walt G. and China, say that, “Even though we’ve been playing for a while, we’re still new to the scene.”
Their newest release The Bond That Binds is the third album of their collection and features 11 original tracks, including the already chart-topping radio hit, For My Special Girl.
“You always want to tryto make things better,” says Walt G., lead vocalist. “So this album is a little more intricate. We even took some funk with a little bit of the ‘80s.”
The album covers an array of relatable topics such as struggles in relationships, love for your family, growing up and missing your loved ones. The track list includes: Do Most Anything, For My Special Girl, Make Tonight The Night, In Your Eyes, More Than Just Words, Your Time To Shine, Settle Down, I Need Your Love, Street Beat, Lovers Better Than Friends and Turn Me On.

It was actually specifically chosen by the group to represent the strong relationship they share. It’s a bond that Walt G. says has been tested over the years with the everyday challenges of the music business.
“Between me and him (China), we’ve been together through a lot of ups and downs, and nothing can break our bond,” says Walt G., a teacher a Ka Waihona o Ka Na’auao Public Charter School in Nanakuli. “We knew each other since 1991, and we were even neighbors for two years, now he’s right down the road.”
With further inspiration by music veterans such as Fiji, who also shares the group’s same producer, Walt G. and China are confident that their group will continue to create music that their fans enjoy.
Their goal: To take their music as far as they can. “Fiji is an artist that never stops and is constantly creating things that are special,” says Walt G. “We just look up to people like Fiji who likes to create other things.”
In the plans for Kawao is an 808 Tour, visiting all the Islands, as well as performances in Guam and Saipan. And a CD release party is in the works.
