Kenneth Makuakane - The White Bathtub
After spending years composing and producing albums for other artists, Kenneth Makuakane is releasing his own solo project. It’s a dream come true for Makuakane, who explains it was only possible with the constant urging of a loved one, and thanks to those who are living and those who have passed.
The album, The White Bathtub, is a Hawaiian contemporary effort that shares with listeners a generous 18 songs. It features some previously unrecorded material that Makuakane wrote many years ago, as well as new compositions. Makuakane says, “In the end, the title unveiled itself. The White Bathtub holds many levels of kaona (hidden meanings) that only reveal what the listener asks for.”
The result is a very personal piece that celebrates all his joys, fears, hopes and beliefs to be enjoyed by those who hear it. The songs on the album are These Dreams, The White Bathtub, With a Hula Girl, I Breathe, The Saga of Pedro Kumukahi, I Know, You Move Me, My Island Girl, Jigger Jigger Mabel, Kaleouwaloikapono, A Matter of the Heart, Kaua’i, There I Go, Sandcrabs With Suntans, Pretty Senorita, Thank You, Shame On You People and Ma Nawiliwili.
Having produced more than 100 albums, Makuakane has worked with artists such as Na Leo, Hapa, Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom, Raiatea Helm, Obrien Eselu and Jeff Rasmussen. And his compositions have been recorded by local artists including the Brothers Cazimero, Na Leo, Kapena, the Pandanus Club, Amy Hanaiali’i Gilliom, Loyal Garner and Gary Haleamau.
Also on his musical resume is a total of 12 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards. And in 2006, Makuakane was inducted into the Kamehameha Schools Alumni Gallery Hall of Fame. He also performs regularly with the multi-award-winning group The Pandanus Club.
