Lubbock, Texas, native Dita Holifield has undoubtedly made a mark in the country music scene as “Queen of Country” not only in Hawaii, but the world over. As host of 97.5 Country KHCM’s Dita and Hutch in the morning radio show, local sales manager at Salem Media Of Hawaii, singer and songwriter, Holifield shares her dynamic high energy and passion for everything country on a daily basis.
On Nov. 24 from noon to 2 p.m., Holifield will take part in Operation Best Wishes, presented by Hawaiian Tel Federal Credit Union at its Wheeler branch. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. In addition to activities for keiki and the family, attendees will have the opportunity to step into a state-of-the-art webcast studio, connecting families with the men and women serving in the armed forces overseas.
“We’re going to be broadcasting and hosting 10-minute webcast salutes where recipients will be able to watch the webcast live and respond by text message,” Holifield explains. “We’re excited and we’re just really happy. Our listenership consists of a lot of military families and spouses, and we just want to get the message out and give them the chance to reconnect with their families during the holidays. It can be a difficult time.”

Holifield’s love for country music along with her charismatic demeanor have helped to take KHCM from a 28th-rated AM radio station two years ago to a top 10 FM radio station today. “I love that I can turn my passion into a business that helps people spiritually, mentally and emotionally. Music makes people happy, and being a part of the radio side of music every day I’m able to give people a slice of home,” says Holifield, who also showcases her talents as a country singer.
Holifield appeared on MidWeek‘s cover in March 2002, and since then has been fine-tuning her seven-piece band, Dita Holifield and Red-Handed. She performs at various military events across the state and has been requested to open for renowned acts such as Willie Nelson, Brooks and Dunn, LeAnne Rimes, Joe Diffe, Brad Paisley and Neal McCoy, among others. She has a music degree in piano performance from Southern Methodist University and a master’s degree in music from the University of Calgary.
A “Jane-of all trades,” Holifield also enjoys her career as a commercial jingle writer and producer of Island contemporary music. Her first CD, Anything Goes, has sold more than 20,000 copies locally.
