Soon the handsome cover subject, wearing a yellow sports shirt and white shorts, took his position in the staged setting of an idyllic isle office ...
That novel cover shot heralded the arrival of the dean of three-dot columnists to the pages of MidWeek 23 years ago. It was a familiar face to locals because Eddie Sherman had been a fixture at the Honolulu Advertiser for decades before.
Sherman, the “Walter Winchell of the Pacific,” couldn’t wait to kick off his shoes and run barefoot through the shifting sands of Hawaii celebritydom.
Sherman, a high school dropout who’d never written anything, has had an illustrious 50-year career covering Hawaii’s visiting entertainers and power brokers. He moved through Hawaii’s social scene and night club circuits with ease and charisma ...
EDDIE-TORIAL. “I know how to work a room,” he says. “My beat was from Hotel Street to the eggheads at the university. I got into every segment of the community - gangsters, prostitutes, actors, lawyers and bank presidents.”
But it is his show-biz celebrity encounters that we remember most: Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Judy Garland, Elvis Presley, Johnny Carson and many more. He was the master of mingling with the usually inaccessible and heavily PR-guarded big names in entertainment.

PAR-LEI-VOOING. Today, the youthful octogenarian pursues other interests that keep him very busy. He is an owner in Deep Ocean Enterprises that pumps and desalinates deep-sea water. Its bottling company is the first in Hawaii to use biodegradable bottles that provide a 100 percent renewable resource.
Sherman also is involved in Tissue Genesis, an innovator of advanced tissue engineering and cell therapy solutions. The Hawaii-based company developed an automated system that recovers regenerative cells from a patient’s own fat, with minimal operator intervention. ...
So life continues to be engaging and fascinating, especially with wife Patty Sherman (pictured above) at his side. The couple met when she bought a $5 bid to dance with Eddie at a celebrity auction. After 12 years of wedded bliss, the dance of love continues
