Award-winning veteran filmmaker, producer and creator of PacificNetwork.tv, Edgy Lee is now mentoring a younger generation of talent, whether they’re actors, producers or up-and-coming filmmakers.

“One of my pleasures is to work with people who are new to the industry and are really talented and have chosen to live in Hawaii,” says Lee, who graced MidWeek‘s cover Oct. 7, 1998. “To be able to offer them a job in and related to this industry is a joy. To do work that reflects who we are, that is work that all these younger people can be proud of. They are a part of shows that are going to change people’s outlooks. We like to correcting caricatures of who we are.”

With new talent surrounding Lee, there is plenty of work to be done. Three new series on PacificNetwork.tv, an interactive television website, include More Local Ventures, Local Justice and Shaka Shakedown. A derivative of a previous PacificNetwork.tv show, More Local Ventures offers in-depth features and profiles of Hawaii’s entrepreneurs. These businesses vary significantly from mom-and-pop shops, green sustainable businesses, female-owned companies or even businesses for pets. The common thread is that More Local Ventures seeks to profile how these start-up businesses have made it through our tough economic situation and what we can learn from the past to get ahead.

Bringing the style and personality of Hawaii to the courtroom, Local Justice is the nation’s first interactive courtroom series. Retired Maui Circuit Court Judge Boyd T. Mossman presides in this courtroom, and each week gives viewers a chance to decide on the outcome of a case. Setting the tone as humorously as he can is KUMU 94.7’s Frank B. Shaner.

Shaka Shakedown brings extreme sports to viewers in a fresh manner. “The message of Shaka Shakedown is that it is all about good, clean fun - from Tahiti to Vermont,” Lee says. The program features submitted material highlighting surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding, unicycling, base jumping and even dog parkour or extreme walking.

Already airing Sundays on KFVE are More Local Ventures at 6 p.m. followed by Local Justice. Shaka Shakedown is set to air Sundays in July.
