Being crowned Miss Teen Hawaii USA in 2008 was obviously only the beginning for Punahou graduate Emma Wo. As summer is approaching, Wo could not be more thrilled, and it isn’t just because her junior year at Scripps College in Los Angeles has just wrapped up. This week Wo will be flying to New York City to start an internship at Vogue magazine.

“Since the pageant I have gained such an interest in fashion; it is definitely an industry I want to pursue. I am not really sure what to expect, but I am so excited because Vogue is such a great magazine, and I hope to learn a lot,” says Wo, who was featured on MidWeek‘s cover December 21, 2007.

Wo, who has continued to model since the Miss Teen Hawaii USA pageant, also has a desire to test the acting waters.

“What better place than New York City to act? So hopefully I can seek out an agent. I have done a few commercials and photo shoots here and there, but I want to explore it more and get that going,” adds Wo, whose live blog, thesidewalkismyrunway.com has given her a unique opportunity to portray current fashion trends and to personalize and model her fashion interests.

Fashion, acting and modeling aren’t the only industries Wo has been busily pursuing. Wo has recently shown an attraction toward media. She has spent time the past two summers interning at KITV and PBS Hawaii.

“Both internships have allowed me to try my potential in different fields. I got to travel with Pamela Young throughout the city and get to know different people. I think each internship has taught me what I want to do and what I do not want to do,” says Wo, a media studies major at Scripps College.

Wo credits much of her ability to pursue and test her interests from the experiences she has had in the pageant scene.

“You learn invaluable skills that apply to anything, such as public speaking and self-confidence. Being a Miss Teen Hawaii USA has allowed me to be more comfortable talking to people. All the questions I had been asked and practiced have really helped my interview skills,” says Wo.

When Wo does take a minute for downtime, she enjoys playing beach volleyball.

“I try to stay active and fit, and volleyball is a great way to do that,” adds Wo.
