Even though it hasn’t been long since Indashio appeared on MidWeek‘s cover - in January of this year - much has happened with the self-taught designer guru who has now added the title of Glam God to his repertoire and $100,000 to his wallet.

“It feels so good. It’s so surreal,” he says. “I feel like now I have the recognition that I’ve been working for these last five years.”

He notes the amount of people wanting to take his picture as he walks the streets of New York, and loves every minute of it. “I remember I was on the subway and this little girl came up to me and was like, ‘I hope you win,’ and that made me feel so good.”

He began entering his creations in shows at the age of 19, making him one of the youngest designers to participate in fashion shows across the country.

Indashio recently won the title after he defeated 11 other designers in the eight-episode VH1 show Glam God. “I actually didn’t think I was going to win - I definitely knew I was going to lose,” he says. During the show, the designers live together and would pack their bags before the end of each show in case they were dismissed by the judging panel. “The other contestants would get so nervous,” he says, mentioning he was just acting nervous but felt confident. “I was like ‘Yeah, right. I would like to see Vivica Fox tell me to reach for the stars (the catch phrase Fox used to dismiss contestants who didn’t make it to the next round).’”

He says he enjoyed working with many of the contestants such as runner-up Tiger Lily, and was sad to see them go at the end of each show. “It was really good to be around all of these successful people,” he says. “I knew I wasn’t going home, but it was sad to see them go. And I could identify with them.”

Currently, Indashio is apartment hunting and preparing to star in a new VH1 show coming out in the near future. He can’t give any details, but is excited about his new partnership with VH1. “It will be on VH1 because I love them and they love me,” he says. “They definitely chose the right man.”

Indashio also has plans to return to Hawaii in January 2009 to do another fashion show. “I’m excited to come back out there and recharge my aloha battery,” he says. “When I was there last time I didn’t want to leave. I was supposed to be there for a week and I stayed for a month.”
