Homeward Bound

Punahou seniors hosted the third annual Homeward Bound 5K fun run/walk last month, beginning and ending at Manoa Valley District Park. The idea for the race was born after Punahou cross country runners Tama Fukuyama and Maya Grossmann volunteered at IHS and wanted to do something more to help end homelessness. Proceeds go to IHS.

BOH Donation Luncheon

In the spirit of holiday giving, Bank of Hawaii and its employees presented a donation of more than $500,000 to 20 local nonprofits during a luncheon at the Plaza Club. The funds were raised by BOH employees and retirees during the bank’s Employee Giving Campaign throughout the month of October.

Butterfly Society Tea

The Butterfly Society of Hawaii hosted its annual Mother-Daughter Tea Dec. 21 at the Pacific Club. The fundraiser supports educational programming, including school and adult tours of the society’s butterfly garden at Foster Botanical Garden. BSOH got its start in 2005 and is dedicated to creating and expanding the network of butterfly habitats in Hawaii the state has 17 species and to increase awareness of their ecological importance.

Media Night At The Standard

The Standard, a chic new nightclub at Waterfront Plaza, celebrated its VIP preview Dec. 15 with a special Media Night that included cocktails and menu samplings. The club, which features VIP seating areas and will host art displays and fashion shows, celebrated its grand opening to the public Dec. 30.

Safeway Beretania Vip Reception

Safeway welcomed its new Beretania Street location, the 19th in the state, with a VIP reception and blessing the day before its Dec. 17 grand opening. Present were Mayor Peter Carlisle, Safeway president/CEO Steve Burd and Kahu Curt Kekuna. The 65,000-square-foot store offers 240 parking stalls, employs a team of 210 and is open 24 hours a day.

Nutcracker Opening Night Reception

The opening night of Nutcracker Dec. 16 at Blaisdell Concert Hall included a VIP celebration with gourmet dining from Hawaii’s top restaurants and a post-performance backstage reception. Dancing in the production was celebrity guest artist Chi Cao, who recently starred in the film Mao’s Last Dancer.

Adore Life Soiree

Family and friends celebrated the life of Sheila Ann Rausch, who died recently from ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) aka Lou Gehrig’s disease, with an Adore Life Soiree Dec. 17 at Mid Pacific Country Club. The party benefitted the Muscular Dystrophy Association and included entertainment, pupus, a silent auction and prizes.

Honolulu Gift Fair

Honolulu StarAdvertiser and MidWeek presented the eighth annual Honolulu Gift Fair Dec. 16 to 18 at Blaisdell Center. Two cans of food for the Hawaii Foodbank was the price of admission to browse more than 300 booths of gifts from books, crafts and locally made items to beauty products, apparel, pet gifts and tons more.
