Johnny Kai’s 15th annual Hawaii Music Awards were celebrated April 11 at the Japanese Cultural Center. More than 60,000 votes decided the award-winners in 31 categories, plus two lifetime achievement awards and awards for Best Album Artwork and Best Liner Notes. The lifetime achievement awards went to Ronald Kanahele and professor Richard Lum.
