Hawaiian Airlines Koa‘e Kea Anniversary
Early flight hostesses for Hawaiian Airlines, who flew the DC- 3 planes, gathered for a gala celebration at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel. The members call themselves Koa‘e Kea (high-flying birds).
Family, friends and former pilots enjoyed a delicious luau buffet dinner, hula and music by Jeff Teves and his trio Kuliakanuu.
Abigail Chong and Carol Mae Vanderford, founders of Koa‘e Kea, were honored. And Bertha Kamaka Simonson, one of the earliest hostesses in 1943, was honored with Koa‘e Kea’s medal.
Winners of the most outstanding aloha attire were hostesses Margie Murray Sumner and Wayne Simonson.
