Japanese Cultural Center Ohana Day
The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii rang in 2006 with its annual celebration, the New Year’s Ohana Festival, on Jan. 8 at JCCH and Moiliili Field. The theme of this year’s festival, “Honoring our Heritage, Embracing our Diversity, Sharing our Future” reflects the center’s motto. Festival co-chairs Susan Kitsu and Tyler Tokioka were assisted by more than 500 volunteers. About 10,000 people attended the festival throughout the day, enjoying Japanese and Okinawan cuisine and entertainment, cultural art displays and demonstrations, a craft fair, ‘things Japanese’ and book sale, keiki kimono dressing and much more.
