Remembering Andy
As noted in columns by Don Chapman and Ron Mizutani (Pages 10 and 32), it was a remarkable day at Hanalei Bay when Andy Irons ashes were scattered at Pine Trees, the break where the three-time world champion learned to surf.
Here is a sampling of photos from that day and from his life, including the MidWeek cover photo from Nov. 19, 2003, with Kelly Slater as well as a photo from the cover story.
As noted in Chapman’s column, another paddle-out/memorial for Irons, Hawaii’s most renowned surfer since Duke Kahanamoku, is scheduled for Dec. 8 at Pipeline/Ehukai.
