DOWTOWN @ THE HiSAM
Town on Waialae has always been a SMART favorite, and now there’s even more of a reason to love it, since its new offspring has opened. Downtown @ HiSAM (the Hawaii State Art Museum) is an amazing lunch spot, featuring the same fresh, local, organic-whenever-possible cuisine. At a recent lunch, SMART tried the two daily soups (vegetable minestrone, black bean with chive crème fraiche), two incredible salads (roasted organic beets, arugula, orange, pistachio, and ricotta salata, and the local tomato, fresh-stretched mozzarella, cucumber, olive, basil and torn bread), as well as the seared ahi club sandwich, the lasagna with lamb, pecorino and mint, and the Kulana filet mignon. (Yes, we were really full.) But we didn’t stop there. The desserts sounded too good to pass up, so we tried the olive oil cake with roasted Kula strawberries and the chocolate hazelnut gelato. Everything tasted fresh, exciting and amazing. Consider us officially impressed. We almost never want to eat anywhere else. Except maybe at Town.
