Ala Moana Center celebrates its landmark 50th anniversary Aug. 13 at 5:30 p.m with a special birthday celebration at Centerstage featuring a traditional Hawaiian blessing, multicultural entertainment and a ceremony to recognize the center’s remaining 11 original businesses — Crack Seed Center, Dairy Queen, Foodland, Longs, Reyn’s, Sears, Shirokiya, Slipper House, Territorial Savings Bank, U.S. Post Office and Watumull’s. Following the celebration, Ala Moana Center will sponsor a golden anniversary giveaway where 1,959 candy bars will be distributed, five of which will contain a hidden golden ticket redeemable for a $250 General Growth Properties gift card. Also, from Aug. 13 to 31 participating retailers will offer various 50th anniversary sales, gift with purchase promotions, in-store events and commemorative 50th anniversary products. A limited-edition Ala Moana Center 50th anniversary key ring charm also is available as a commemorative gift with purchase. Shoppers who redeem $200 in Ala Moana Center store and restaurant receipts (dated Aug. 13 to 31) at the Customer Service Center will receive the key ring charm.
