Annual Senior Fashion Show
Wednesday - May 25, 2005
Watch out L.A. and New York! From Ready to Wear to the Red Carpet, the recent University of Hawaii fashion department’s senior fashion show was proof positive that these young designers are already on their way to the top.
“Even though all of the senior designers are from Hawaii they all had individual style and interpretation of style,” says Jennifer Lieu, the show’s fashion director. “Everyone’s taste is so different.”
The show, Menagerie: A Collection, featured creations by six senior designers and about a dozen junior designers. Each senior designer submitted one outfit for the Red Carpet segment, one outfit for Eye Candy (men’s line), one outfit for Fantasy (an image vs. reality themed line), and a minimum of five for Ready to Wear.
“This show allows us to showcase our best works and creativity and to prove what we’re capable of doing after all of these years,” says Darcy Young, a senior designer who plans to move to New York after graduation to pursue a fashion career in design.
The student designers are in the Apparel Product Design and Merchandising program in the UH College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources Department. The program has opened doors to new careers and opportunities for many of its graduates. For more information, call 956-2244.
