Bamboo Sky
Wednesday - May 31, 2006
From hippie to hot, there’s a new boutique in town for the contemporary, shabby and chic. Bamboo Sky, located next to 24 Hour Fitness and Osake Sushi Bar and Lounge on Kapiolani Boulevard, is the brainchild of boyfriend/girlfriend duo Shane Breeden (Kalani ’93) and Tiffany Young (Mid-Pacific Institute ’96).
“We have hand-picked brands that a lot of people don’t know about,” says Young, who holds a BA in fashion design from Woodbury University and many years of experience in retail management and apparel design. “I think that’s what shopping is about, finding something special that is not necessarily everywhere. We get new stuff every week and we don’t buy very deep in each style, only a handful in quantity, so you don’t have to worry about everyone having the same clothes as you.”
Bamboo Sky, which opened last month, carries many of today’s hottest brands, such as Seven For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, Scrapbook, Rubber Ducky, Miss Me and Siwy Jeans. They also are the exclusive Hawaii retailer to carry Veronica M. And they offer a collection of hip belts, handbags and jewelry, including jewelry by Ginger 13 and Young’s own line Tiffany Mei.
“Tiffany and I are here every day, so when you shop here you’re dealing with the buyer and owner directly,” says Breeden, who also works in real estate, owns an import business in crystal accessories and serves as the executive director for Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry. “And the store, the environment is very special. From the floor plans to the interior design, there’s a lot of personal touches.”
“And there’s Vinny (the Yorkshire terrier),” adds Young. “Customers just love him.” Bamboo Sky is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on the weekends. For more information, call 941-0033 or visit www.bamboosky.com
