Just in time for the busy holiday shopping season, Laurie Oda and Nicholas Leong have paired up to open Basique Threads, a new store at Ward Warehouse (near T&C Surf) offering contemporary urban fashions for men and women.

“Our name, Basique Threads, derives from the types of styles we carry,” explains Oda. “We’re looking for pieces that have fairly basic prints, but are still interesting and unique in terms of the cut or style of the item. We have styles for any age and demographic, but it’s all about how you choose to make it your own. It’s a style nightmare when you run into someone wearing the exact same outfit as you, but when you accessorize and mix and match our basic and fun pieces, you can create a look of your own.”

Brands you’ll find include Bleulab, Insight, Blaque Label, Comune, Neff, Local Celebrity, Garnett Jewelry, Upper Class Label, Primrose and more.

Both Oda and Leong are graduates of Punahou School and Santa Clara University with degrees in business management. Oda, who has always had an interest in shopping and fashion, has worked at Abercrombie Kids, Hollister, Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret and Bamboo Sky. Leong has worked in restaurants, parking management and as a tennis coach. “We both wanted to start our own business and put our degrees to good use,” says Oda. “With Nick’s strong sense of entrepreneurship and my retail background, starting Basique Threads worked to our strengths.”
