Fighting Eel
Wednesday - August 16, 2006
Made in paradise. Loved around the world. Fighting Eel, a local women’s clothing company with a wildfire popularity, has released its highly anticipated fall 2006 collection — Cocktails at Sunset.
According to Fighting Eel founders/designers Lan Chung and Rona Bennett, the new line was inspired by the Mai Tai Bar at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and arrives in stores Aug. 15.
“The quality of our fabric and the drape of our clothes is what makes us special,” says Bennett. “The fabrics are luxurious and the cuts are flattering. And our styles are modern but not trendy. You can wear the pieces for a long time.” The company, which turned three last month, has become a must-have label for local gals of all ages and lifestyles — from best-dressed fashionistas to laid-back surfer chics, as well as Hollywood celebrities. Their clothes have been featured in Elle, Lucky and WWD, and seen on stars like Mariah Carey, Brittany Murphy, Bobbie Thomas on E! and on the Today Show.
“Fighting Eel can be fit to be worn to your personal style,” adds Bennett. “You can dress it up or dress it down. It is super comfortable, you can wear almost every piece with slippers, and it’s made by two local girls. We understand the Hawaii lifestyle and what local girls want.”
Fighting Eel garments are designed in Hawaii and manufactured in Los Angeles. Its growing popularity has prompted Chung and Bennett to expand their base of operations with the opening of an L.A. office. They are also working on selling internationally.
Fighting Eel can be found in more than 150 stores across the country, including department stores Nordstrom and Barney’s.
On Oahu, it’s at Mary Z’s, Second Skin, Koko Cabana, Pineapple County, Shasa Emporium, Crazy Beautiful, 99 Boarding Co., and on about dozen websites, including www.rafaelhawaii.com For a complete list of locations, visit www.fightingeel.com
