After working in the fashion and jewelry industry in New York City for about eight years, Farida Ong decided to return home last year and start something new.

She created Fishloaves, an online boutique offering fashions that are “easy, breathable, different and most importantly inexpensive.”

“Fishloaves is not a Christian bakery, though I came up with the name because I was inspired by the miracle of two fish and five loaves, and I just think it’s encouraging and it’s such a positive story,” says Ong, who has lived in Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong.

A Fishloaves store is located at the Samsung Plaza on Keeaumoku Street but will be moving out at the end of this month.

So now, Ong is in search of a “new fishbowl,” but in the meantime will continue to run her business online.

Within five months, Ong says she has garnered close to 400 followers on her Fishloaves Inc Facebook page which also has a “shop now” section.

“I have fans worldwide,” she says. “In fact, one of my customers placed an order all the way from France.”
