GREEN IS THE NEW BLACK
Wednesday - August 06, 2008
The Wedding Cafe and Divas Doing Good present Green is the New Black Aug. 12 at the Waterfront at Aloha Tower (formerly Kapono’s), a fashion event featuring some of Hawaii’s top designers and retailers all for one cause: going green in the coolest way.
“The purpose of the event is to raise awareness of a younger community to do good,” says Tanna Dang, owner of The Wedding Cafe. “To make baby changes within your own lifestyle. For example, not buying bottled water and saying no to plastic bags.”
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and serves as a benefit to support Kanu Hawaii and its movement for Island-style activism.
Admission is $25 presale (available at The Wedding Cafe) or $30 at the door, and includes pupus, drink specials, live and silent auctions, a fashion show and swag bags filled with goodies from some of Hawaii’s top boutiques.
Guests also can enter to win a roundtrip for two to the West Coast on Hawaiian Airlines.
The fashion show will feature designs from Fashionista’s Market, Jessica’s Traveling Boutique, Split Obsession, Allison Izu, Noelani Designs, Ginger 13 and Alliway.
There also are silent auction gift certificates from Roberta Oaks, T & C Surf, Pualani Hawaii, The Butik, SugarGems, Elle Couture, The Wedding Ring Shop and more.
“We are also having all the boutique owners, designers, fashion icons make a pledge on behalf of their lifestyle,” adds Dang, who carpools and uses reusable totes for shopping. “For example, I will turn off the water when brushing my teeth.”
