Hamilton Boutique
Wednesday - July 12, 2006
At the Hamilton Boutique in Waikiki, $10 can get you a cute strapless terry dress, trendy chandelier earrings or comfortable cotton gauchos. In fact, everything in the store is $10 — jewelry, purses, clothes, belts, hats, pashminas, as well as men’s watches, wallets and silk woven ties.
“I love fashion and I wanted to help people have fun shopping while making it affordable,” says Yuki Hatta, store owner. “Especially with trends changing so often, it can get expensive. But at our boutique you can have the latest styles without spending too much.”
If you haven’t already figured it out, the store is named after Alexander Hamilton, whose face is on the $10 bill. Merchandise is hand picked by Hatta herself, who travels to factories and fashion conventions all over the world, including to Hong Kong and Los Angeles. Her sister, Chika, also assists as the buyer. “The products are affordable and the quality is still there,” adds Hatta, who was born in New York and lived on the East Coast, West Coast and in Japan before moving to Hawaii eight months ago. “Also, a lot of the items are bought in large quantities, so we are able to get it cheaper.”
The boutique also joined the Lokahi Giving Project by selling art by local artists with proceeds to support women and children. The current featured artist is Roberta Goodman, whose paintings often depict Hawaiian nature.
“My mother always told me to give back,” says Hatta. “I was brought up by a single mother and I was the youngest of three, so I always had the hand-me-downs. But my mother has always taught me to be kind to others and to always lend a hand to someone in need.” The Hamilton Boutique is located at 2131 Kalakaua Ave. (near Burberry). Parking is available in the metered lot on Kuhio Avenue and Kaiolu Street or behind the store on Saratoga Avenue across the Waikiki Post Office. For more information, call 922-5090.
