This month, Crazy Shirts celebrates the 10th birthday of one of its most popular characters - Sharka.

“The 10th anniversary of Sharka is really a big occasion for us,” says Mark Hollander, president and CEO of Crazy Shirts. “It’s the first real major milestone for Sharka as it has continued to grow as an important part of Crazy Shirts. And Sharka has a great story behind its character that I think lots of people can relate to. It represents a lot of the light-hearted nature that we try to embody here at the company, and it’s something that adults, kids, staff, parents and customers can all relate to.

“The character genesis really began with the creating artist as he was spending some time with his kids. He was playing the thumb-kin game and as he looked at his thumb his creative mind went rolling around, and then he sat down and sketched out a shark based on the shape of his thumb. Since then, Sharka has really taken on many forms and many different characters, and has really grown into a fully developed line.”

The company has also launched a couple of new products - sunflower dyed garments featuring a nice golden color, and a sheared line for the more fashion-oriented, youthful customer with shirts that are lighter weight and more fitted than the traditional heavy weight T-shirts that Crazy Shirts uses while maintaining all the high quality attributes that the company is known for.

For Sharka’s birthday, the company will be offering a Sharka gift bag full of Sharka goodies with every Sharka T-shirt purchase. And you can meet the creator of Sharka, Crazy Shirts graphic artist Desmond Dano, during a special appearance at the Ala Moana Center store on Saturday, July 30 from 3 to 5 p.m. For more information, call 1-800-771-2720
