Hot Mama Moves In With Baby Awearness
Wednesday - January 27, 2010
Hot Mama Maternity, previously located in Kaimuki, has moved in with Baby aWEARness at Manoa Marketplace, offering moms a one-stop shop for baby items and maternity wear, as well as serving as a resource center for families.
According to Baby aWEARness owners Ashley Lukens and Naoko “Nicky” Lawnsby, who co-purchased the store last June, their purpose and mission is threefold: 1) To sell eco-friendly products. 2) To be a resource center offering classes and workshops for families who want live greener, healthier and happier lives. Classes range from healthy cooking, macrobiotic cooking, baby food and organic gardening, to mom and baby yoga, keiki sign language and keiki hula. 3) To offer a full-time in-store lactation consultant to help moms continue breast-feeding.
“I feel passionately about informing and empowering mothers to make choices that are good for their children, their communities and the earth,” says Lukens, a proud mother of 1-year-old Audrey.
Lawnsby, a bilingual (Japanese and English) British-certified nurse midwife, is one of the few International Board Certified Lactation Consultants on Oahu and specializes in breast-feeding issues and complications, breast massage and mother and baby nutrition. She also offers preand post-natal consultation and education. The store also carries cloth diapers from brands such as Bum Genius, Happy Heinys, Fuzzi Bunz, Mommys Touch, Flip Diapers, Thirsties, Imse Vimse, Bummies and Dream-Eze, and a wide variety of baby carriers and top-of-the-line natural toys from Nova Naturals.
