Mitsuko Yamauchi hit the international market in the mid-‘60s, long before Japanese designers came into prominence. She has acquired 36 international competition awards over 30 years, including honors from the All Japan Designer Association. Today Yamauchi is ranked among Japan’s top designers and is the founder and president of the renowned Fashion Room Madonna in Okinawa. She blends modern materials with traditional and indigenous textiles, creating contemporary styles for both men and women. Her trademark butterfly can be found in each of her designs. Jeanie Chun is another internationally celebrated couture designer with many credits to her name. Her designs can be seen as part of the permanent alumni collection at the Kook Je Fashion Academy of Korea as well as in the Korea Museum of Modern Costume in her native
Seoul, South Korea. Chun is known for creating elegant wedding dresses for mothers of brides as well as classic styles for formal occasions. Chun is the proprietor of Jacqueline De Michel, an all-original private design studio, and serves as Director of Design for Jean Michel USA, a line of sophisticated women’s sports and resort wear.
